Mission Statement Our mission is to assist inner city children and their parent(s) with positive life experiences by providing avenues, resources and programs that meet their “social, physical, environmental and educational needs.” Our past and present participating sponsors allow us to bring all children together and give them a chance of a lifetime. On behalf of the children, parents and staff of the San Diego Junior Golf Foundation, we would like to extend a special and warm thanks to all our corporate sponsors who have generously supported our program.

Background The San Diego Junior Golf Foundation was established on June 7, 1997 with the sole intention of introducing the wonderful game of golf to all children between the ages of 5 to 17, especially in the inner city. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, our primary goal is to give children a chance of a lifetime, everyone is welcome! The staff provides structured golf lessons with a teacher - student ratio of 1:5. Golf lessons are conducted each Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at various locations throughout the city and county. Golf equipment and lessons are provided at no cost.

Our students receive continuous classroom training in the following areas:
• Golf Etiquette and Rules • Swing and Putting Analysis
• Public Speaking • Personal and Social Interaction

We Do More Than Just Play Golf Meeting our students social, physical, environmental and educational needs is paramount to our organization. Our students have the opportunity to enhance their educational skills and development through our partnership with the Vital Links program. The Vital Link Enrichment and Vital Link Tutorial programs are an innovative effort to strengthen the literacy and social skills of children that attend either program. During each fiscal quarter, we provide our students with cultural and social enrichment through field trips to many of San Diego’s attractions. Picnics and other parent-child activities assist us in supporting the parent-child relationship. SDJGF serves all children in San Diego County, but a many of our students and parents live in National City and SE San Diego.

Community Demographics One of our objectives is to meet the growing demands for our services. Of the clients we serve in National City, Chula Vista and greater San Diego, 90% come from low to moderate-income homes. In the National City community, the median income is $30, 000, and 19% live below the poverty level and 40% come from families with female-head-of households. The foundation provides opportunities to learn the game of golf and receive social, physical, environmental, and educational services free of charge for children and their families who otherwise could not afford them.

During the past five years, 300 children have participated in our Junior Golf Program. In 2002, the foundation expanded its programs and services. We launched our web site and created a database to track our students' progress to accurately measure our children's social, physical, environmental and educational performance levels.

SDJGF Community Partnership Program

Vision Statement: We endeavor to impact our community children with educational empowerment, economic development, and social improvement.

Partners in the Community
Meeting our students' social, physical, environmental and educational needs are paramount to our organization, and our students have the opportunity to enhance their educational skills and development through the partnership programs.

  • The Vital Link Enrichment and Vital Link Tutorial programs
  • The Boys and Girls Club of National City, and
  • Children, Youth & Family Network (CYFN)

These additional resources not only allow us to share a common vision and reach out to other nonprofit agencies serving the community, but also provides a vehicle for creating alternatives to traditional service provisions for children and young people with complex social, physical and emotional needs. Through this partnership, we can meet our children's needs, thus improving their daily life, education and golf experiences.

Cultural Activities
During each fiscal quarter, we provide our students with cultural and social enrichment through field trips to many of San Diego's attractions. Field trips to Art Galleries, Museums and other cultural events, as well as, the computer learning and library center programs, provide the children with opportunities to experience and learn more about the world they live in. Picnics and other parent-child activities, assist us in supporting the parent-child relationship. Parental involvement has increased steadily from 10% to 65% over the past two years.

Junior Golf Program
Our Junior Golf Program consists of two program elements: Education, Golf Development and Training.

The Education Program includes the following activities: Vital Link Enrichment and Vital Link Tutorial; Kids Talk- Reinforcing Personal and Social Interaction; Social and Cultural Enrichment; and the SDJGF Computer and Tutorial Center.

The Golf Development and Training Program includes the following activities: Golf etiquette and rules; Golf Swing and Putting analysis; Personal Golf Instruction Course Management Techniques; and playing competitive golf.

We take our students through a progressive series of lessons to ensure that they have a thorough understanding of the swing, starting with the short game.

Without assistance from our community supporters, SDJGF would not be able to "Give All Children the Chance of a Lifetime". Through our SDJGF Community Support Program, we have been extremely fortunate in receiving several generous donations, gift giving, grants and other community support. Our goal is to become self-sufficient within the next two years. Listed below are our primary sponsorship opportunities.

SDICJGF Sponsor-A-Child Program
In 2004, you or your company can sponsor a child for $10.00 dollars a month, that's only $2.50 per week. This is a cost of giving a child in our program a chance of a lifetime.
